Home › Forums › Uniform Swap & Sell › A Jamaican Cockney Tale: Why Retro Armchairs Still Matter
Mi name Varon, come London 1948. The real ting never lose value. We only could afford old sofa, but it scratch, retro accent chairs it creak, but it solid. Nowadays dem want flat-pack quick. Step in Portobello, you see retro sofa pile high. Not pretty-pretty, unusual armchairs but dem real. Long time before internet, people buy furniture to last. Every stain show moment. Mi and brethren Lennox find one old Chesterfield in Dalston, but dat sofa warm half community. Dat sofa still in mi memory.
Design mix by area. Chelsea go fancy, wid plush sofa. Brixton mash up mix, wid retro chair mash-up. Modern flat-pack? Mi tell you straight – rubbish. Retro sofa last long. Truth be told, mi back di old ting every time. So next time you want chair, stop an look round, and let it shout London and Jamaica both.
