Student modern living room furniture in East London is messy but fun. The flat looked more squat than home, but we filled it with life. No student can afford Mayfair prices, so we grabbed second-hand. Another dragged a chair from Camden. It felt like Shoreditch, but that’s what made it ours. Chairs with scars feel stronger, and we don’t need polish, we need real. I’ve crashed into a leather sofa after a night out, and every time it felt right.
Markets spill chairs onto the streets, and designers take inspiration from it. We wandered past Smithers one Saturday, and the accent chairs were bold and weird. money was tight, but it’s the pride of the living room. We’ve all dragged furniture through rain. it’s how you build a home. Retro sofas don’t care if you spill. Catalogue gloss falls apart fast, but vintage carries weight. Every scratch adds more story. By the end of the year, the cracked window gets forgotten, but the mismatched set still makes you laugh.
When you start student life, don’t waste time on the soulless new. Make space for a classic seat, and watch it age with you.
