Vintage Armchairs, Accent Chairs, and Sofas: retro style armchair Proper Character for Real Homes Vintage sofas just feel more real than anything new. The family armchair was covered in throws but still solid. It weren’t showroom-perfect, but it was part of us. When the East End was full of voices, you didn’t buy throwaway chairs. quirky chairs for living room lived longer than flats. It’s in the sag of the springs. I found a retro accent chair in a Dalston car boot. Some would’ve laughed at the state of it, but you can’t fake that kind of comfort.
It’s become part of my story. Furniture in London shifts with the postcode. Kensington loves velvet, with grand accent chairs. Shoreditch stays messy, unusual chair with industrial armchairs. The clash gives it character. New furniture looks dead next to vintage. Vintage finds age with dignity. Every creak is a memory. When it comes down to it, an old funky accent chair means more than new gloss. A chair should hold your nights.
Next time you’re thinking of flat-pack, go dig through a car boot. Take home something with scars, and make it part of your story.
